Market Manager for the City Market since 2004, Deb Connors oversees all aspects of the City Market Farmers’ Market. This includes managing over 140 farmers’ market vendors, an average of 40 Community Yard Sale vendors, and the City Market on weekends. Deb is also responsible for handling all annual vendor contracts, collections of annual and daily fees, and the collection of all licenses and permits, for a total of approximately $197,700 per year. In addition to collecting fees she is also responsible for recruitment of new vendors, weekly farm visits to validate vendors, placement of vendors, and enforcement of all market rules and regulations. In 2009 the Farmers’ Market started accepting SNAP/EBT (food stamps). This program was implemented and managed by Deb Connors with annual sales of approximately $133,000.
Experience – For twelve years Deb managed federal cafeterias in the Kansas City area as an employee of Southern Foodservice Management. This work history gave her a strong background in customer service, working with local and federal agencies, safe food handling practices, and managing a large staff. Deb is a member of the mayor appointed Food Protection Advisory Board, and a board member for the Missouri Farmers’ Market Association. She serves on the steering committee for the Menorah Legacy Foundations Beans & Greens program. She is a member of AgriMissouri, National Association of Produce Market Managers, and the Farmers’ Market Coalition, and is also a Certified Tourism Ambassador for Kansas City. Among her many professional accomplishments, Deb has received the following awards as Market Master for the City Market: 2005 Associate of the Year Copaken White & Blitt, June 2005 Associate of the Quarter Copaken White & Blitt, 2005 Champion of the Year – AgriMissouri / Missouri Department of Agriculture, and the 2012 Downtown Council Urban Hero Award.
